How to determine the sett for a particular yarn?

When I’m trying to imagine the ends per inch for a yarn, I wrap the ruler for 1 inch leaving a space between the wraps that is big enough for the weft yarn to fit into.  If the weft yarn is fatter than the warp yarn, the space would be larger.  Remember that no woven fabric is finished until it is washed and dried.  All-natural yarns blossom so if you don’t leave any air space for the yarn to blossom, you end up making very hard fabric.  If you do leave that space after the yarn has blossomed the fabric has an excellent hand and a soft yet stable drape.
