Weaving Double Width Including Tie-Ups
Question: I’m attempting a double-width blanket. I’ve threaded a straight draw, one, two, three, four. For the life of me, I can’t figure out what the tie-up should be. My brain is mush. Soon my warp will be too. Help!
Think about harness 1 and 2 being the top layer and harness 3 and 4 being the bottom layer.
- Lift harness 1 and throw the shuttle from left to right.
- Then lift harness 2 and throw the same shuttle back from right to left. You have just woven 2 picks on the top layer of your blanket.
- Then lift Harness 1 and 2 which gets the top out of the way and add 3 to it (so you are lifting 123) and throw your shuttle from left to right
- Then lift Harness 1 and 2 which keeps the top out of the way and add 4 to it and that is the other half of your tabby on the bottom layer and throw your shuttle from right to left.
Then repeat. Your join is happening on the left-hand side of the blanket when it leaves the top layer and goes into the bottom layer. Hope this makes sense.
